Modern Shapes Transition Tutorial Transcript
Hey, welcome back to my new video. I am Dragos from EZ Tutorials, and for those of you who are the first time in this channel, please consider subscribing.
Today we’ll be creating this.

In this tutorial, we’ll be using the EZ Tool script, which is free to download. You can get it by clicking the link from the upper right corner of this screen. You can also download the project files and the template separately. This way you will be able to create this wonderful transition animation, even if you don’t want to download my template. You can find the download link in the description.
So let’s start.
Import the files you need into After Effects.
Let’s create a new composition and name it: shape transitions. I’m using a FULL HD 1080 pixels preset, with 30 frames per second, and 6 seconds long.
Bring the color palette file into this composition, then, create a new shape layer.
Click this button to add a rectangle to our shape, then, click it again and add a fill.
Let’s change the fill color to this color, but this is optional. You can use any colors combination you want.
Rename the shape layer red, open the rectangle path 1 options, and change the size values to 200.
Open the scale property, create a keyframe, and change the values to 0%, then open the rotation property, create a keyframe and change the value to -180 degrees.
Reveal all the properties with keyframes, move to 1 second, change the scale values to 100%, and the rotation value to 45 degrees. Move 15 frames forward, and change the scale values to 30%, then, move 1 second forward and change the scale to 1100%. This way the shape will cover the entire screen.
Select all these keyframes and easy ease them, then, open the graph editor, select them again, and drag any of these yellow handles all the way to the left.
Your shape animation should look like this until now.
Select the red layer and duplicate it, then grab the new layer and offset it 2 frames to the right.
Change its fill color to this color, then you can delete the color palette file.
Rename the new layer yellow, then, create a new shape layer.
Add an ellipse and a stroke to it, and rename it circle 1.
Open the ellipse path 1 options, and change the size values to 330.
To animate this circle, click on add, and select trim paths.
Move to the first frame, open the trim paths 1 options, change the end value to 0%, and create keyframes on the start and end properties.
Move to 15 frames, and change both values to 50%. Move 2 frames forward. select the start keyframes and drag the like this.
Now, select all the keyframes and easy ease them, then, open the graph editor and change the curves like this.
The circle animation should look like this.
Select the circle 1 layer and duplicate it.
Open the rotation property of the new layer and change the angle value to 180 degrees.
This is how your animation should look like.
Let’s move on with the horizontal accents. Activate the title safe area, grab the pen tool, make sure to unselect any layer, then, create a point right in the center of your composition.
Zoom out, and while holding the shift button pressed, create the second point of your line around here.
Let’s rename the new shape layer line 1, set it’s Fill to none, and the stroke to a solid white color, and a with of 2 pixels.
Open the layer 1 options, and click add, trim paths.
Move to 1 second and 15 frames, open the trim path 1 options, change the end value to 0%, and crate keyframes on the start and end properties.
Move 1 second forward, and change both values to 100%, them move another 2 frames forward, and offset the start keyframes like this.
Select all the keyframes and easy ease them, then, open the graph editor and change the curves like this.
Duplicate the line 1 layer, offset the new layer 2 frames to the right, open its position property, and change the Y position value to 525.
This is how our animation looks until now.
Select all the layers and apply the motion blur to them, then click here to activate the effect.
Select the line 1 and the line 2 layers, pre-compose them and name the new composition lines.
Duplicate this composition, then open the scape property of the new comp, unlink the values, and change the X value to -100%.
All these actions will create the symmetric animation of the horizontal lines.
Now, let me show you how easy is to use this transition.
Bring your first image at the bottom of your composition.
Select the yellow layer, duplicate it, rename the new layer mask, and offset it 2 frames to the right
Bring the second image under the mask layer, and change its track matte to alpha matte.
As you can see our transition is complete, and it looks great.
If you want to use it more then one time, select all the layers from the red layer to the top layer, duplicate them, move the new layers at the top of your composition, then drag them to the right like this, and make them start at the moment that you want the second transition to begin.
Now, select the image 2 layer, hold the alt button pressed and drag the third image over it.
You can repeat this action as many times as you need.
